Power outages scattered across county after storm

Power outages were scattered across Pine Bluff and Jefferson County on Wednesday evening after a line of severe thunderstorms blew through the area.

The Entergy website at one time reported more than 2,000 outages in Pine Bluff, but that number had dropped to below 1,000 by 8 p.m. At that time, the website listed the affected customers as: 133 south of Redfield; 357 near Wright and Pastoria; 215 at Jefferson; and 306 in the unincorporated areas southeast of Altheimer.

The National Weather Service had issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the area in advance of the storm. The NWS website reported wind speeds of 18 mph and gusts of 26 mph and 0.14 inches of rain were recorded at about 7 p.m. at its weather observation point at Grider Field Airport.

Emergency personnel fielded numerous calls about downed trees and power lines to the Metropoltan Emergency Communication Association.
