Pedestrian killed in Tuesday accident

A Pine Bluff man was killed early Tuesday morning when he was struck by a vehicle while walking on U.S. 79 North.

Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley identified the victim as Walter B. Farver Jr., 33, who was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Eric Belcher at 1:03 a.m. The cause of death was listed as multiple blunt force trauma.

Farver was walking south on the highway when he was struck by a tractor-trailer that was northbound, according to a preliminary report from State Police Cpl. Marlon Briggs.

Kelley said the body was released to Brown Funeral Home.

The accident was reported at 12:27 a.m. Briggs said in the report that the weather was clear and the roadway dry at the time. The report didn’t give the name of the truck driver nor if any citations would be given.

The death was the 141st reported so far this year on the state’s highways.
