One person was killed and four were injured in a three-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon on an icy bridge in Grant County.
The fatality victim, James A. Nichols, 58, of Flippen was unable to stop on the Arkansas Highway 46 South bridge and hit another vehicle head-on after that vehicle had been hit by a third vehicle, according to a preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police.
Cletus Byrd, 88, of Leola; Todd Nichols, 57, of Irvin, Texas; Bobby Brooks, 49, of Sulphur, Okla.; and Wanda Justice, 68, of Grapevine were all injured and taken to hospitals in Malvern and Pine Bluff.
The preliminary report did not indicate the types of vehicles involved.
The accident was reported at 12:07 p.m., and according to the report, it was raining and the road was wet and icy.
The death was the sixth on the state’s highways so far this year.
