Mays seeks re-election to Ward 4 council seat


Ward 4 Alderman Steven Mays has announced his intentions to seek re-election to the Pine Bluff City Council beginning with the May 20 Democratic Party primary.

In a news release announcing his candidacy, Mays said he is a lifelong resident of Ward 4.

“It is an honor to serve you and your families in the great city of Pine Bluff,” Mays said in the news release. “We must continue to work together in order to move our great city forward into the future.”

In the news release, Mays said he is the only alderman who is certified by the Arkansas Municipal League as a certified municipal official during his first four year term.

Mays is chairman of the city council’s public works committee and also serves on the .traffic and aviation and development and planning committees. He is a past chairman of the Family Community Development Corporation.

Mays said he frequently works with residents to help solve problems.

“I have contacted City Hall over 500 times and have helped over 4,000 citizens directly or indirectly, including speaking and supporting in many different places and events in our city,” he said. ” … I have worked actively with all five neighborhood watch groups in the 4th Ward and helped them to grow and reduce crime. “

Mays is a 1979 graduate of Pine Bluff High School and a 1985 graduate of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff with a degree in business administration.

“Pine Bluff will always be my home, and I love serving the citizens of Pine Bluff,” Mays said in his news release.
