Man injured in Sunday accident dies at hospital

A Pine Bluff man who was involved in a two-vehicle accident on Sunday died Tuesday at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

Lloyd Baker, 71, was southbound on U.S. 63 when the 2008 Chevrolet he was driving crossed the center line and hit a 1995 Ford driven northbound by Ronnie Payne, 47, of Warren, according to a preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police.

Payne was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

The accident was reported at 12:15 p.m. on U.S. 63 at St. Raphael Road. Trooper Phillip Fenton said in the report the highway was wet and it was raining at the time.

The death was the 56th reported on the state’s highways so far this year.
