A Lake Village man was killed Sunday when he was thrown off the backhoe he was operating in Desha County.
According to a preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police, Brian A. Morgan, 29, was southbound on U.S. 65 north of the old Tillar Highway when the backhoe was struck in the rear by a 2007 Volvo driven by Wendell M. Black, 62, of Elba, Ala., that was also southbound.
After the collision, the Volvo went off the roadway, struck a tree and overturned on the driver’s side.
Black was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center at Pine Bluff for treatment.
The accident was reported at 11:20 a.m. and Trooper Chris Crim said in the report the highway was dry at the time.
The death was the 97th reported so far this year on the state’s highways.
