Ivy Center to host state education official

The Ivy Center for Education Inc. will host Tracy Selby Tucker, director of curriculum and instruction with the Arkansas Department of Education, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Faith Presbyterian Church, 913 University Drive in Pine Bluff.

Tucker was invited to Pine Bluff to speak to students and parents about the new Common Core State Standards and the Smart Core Curriculum, according to Ivy Center President Mattie P. Collins.

“We have had so many parents call us at the Ivy Center and ask us what these standards are,” Collins said. “They want to help their children to succeed but they need more information on how the curriculum has changed in the past several years. That is why we invited Dr. Tucker. She is the top state official on this topic.”

Collins said a question-and-answer session will be a part of the presentation.

“The Ivy Center encourages students, parents, educators and community supporters to attend this most important meeting with their fifth- through 12th-grade students,” Collins said. “The entire community is encouraged to attend so that we can all be on the same page when it comes to understanding how to help our students get the best education that they can.”

The Ivy Center is a nonprofit organization in Pine Bluff.
