Glen Brown Jr. to run for city council seat

Dr. Glen D. Brown Jr. announced Friday that he will for a Ward 2 alderman’s seat on the Pine Bluff City Council.

The seat is held by Alderman Wayne Easterly, who previously announced he would seek re-election but had not filed as of Friday afternoon. Easterly said he will file for re-election during the independent filing period that begins July 25.

Glen Brown Jr.’s father is a Ward 3 alderman.

“Pine Bluff is my home,” Glen Brown Jr. said in a news release. I was born and raised here. I decided to start my career and raise my family here because I believe in the future of Pine Bluff. It would be an honor and privilege to serve our great city on the council.”

A graduate of Watson Chapel High School, Brown received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, and earned a doctoral degree in chiropractic from Sherman College of Chiropractic at Spartanburg, N.C. He also attended Life Chiropractic in Marietta, Ga.

He owns Brown Chiropractic Clinic in Pine Bluff and was an adjunct instructor in anatomy and physiology at UAPB. He is a member of the UAPB Alumni Association. Brown also sponsors several youth sports teams and is actively involved in various civic and community service programs.

Brown is married to the former Kara Matthews, an associate dean at UAPB, and they have two children. He is a member of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church.

“My focus will be on our youth and on economic development for the city of Pine Bluff,” Brown said in the news release. “I intend to work hard with other elected officials to increase youth activities and improve the tax base in Pine Bluff.”
