The Jefferson County Humane Society, a volunteer nonprofit organization with a mission of alleviating the suffering of animals, is sponsoring a fundraising dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Harbor Oaks Country Club in Pine Bluff’s Regional Park.
Admission will be $10 per person, and tickets will be sold at the door. Performing will be Jerry McCoy and the Hammers, 2011 inductees into the Mississippi Blues Hall of Fame. Also on the show bill are The World Famous Chaps.
Proceeds will benefit JCHS’ efforts in finding new homes for abandoned and rescued dogs and cats within the county and the organization’s spay and neuter program, in which JCHS subsidizes the cost of spaying and neutering dogs and cats for low-income families.
“Also, our members have numerous rescued dogs and cats in their care and are looking for good homes for them,” said JCHS secretary/treasurer Vicky DeWeese, who added that the rescue and spay and neuter programs “help to reduce the number of animals which would potentially be loose and at risk on the street.”
JCHS will have another fundraiser on the following day — Sunday, Dec. 15 — with the annual Photos with Santa event at the Margland II bed and breakfast house at 703 W. Second Ave. Pets and their adult and children owners can have photographs made with Santa Claus for $10 per setting.
JCHS is also preparing for its yearly membership drive in January.
Individual memberships are available for $25. Family memberships are priced at $40 and business memberships are $100. Membership fees are tax-deductible. The organization has monthly meetings.
“Donations and memorials of any amount are always gladly accepted,” DeWeese said.
