Dennis seeks re-election to court bench

Circuit Judge Jodi Dennis has announced her candidacy for re-election in the 5th Division of the Eleventh West Judicial District, which serves Jefferson and Lincoln counties.

Dennis began her judicial career in 2004 when she was appointed by former Gov. Mike Huckabee to replace the late Judge H. A. Taylor Jr. With that appointment, she became the first and only female circuit judge in the district, a distinction she still holds.

Dennis served as Second Division circuit judge until Dec., 31, 2006, then was elected to her present position.

Before being appointed to the bench, Dennis was a deputy prosecutor in the Eleventh-West Judicial District, and also worked as an assistant public defender.

She received both her bachelor’s and law degrees from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

She and her husband, Mike, who is also an attorney, have lived in Pine Bluff for 30 years.

In her present position, she handles both criminal and civil cases, as well as all penitentiary matters.
