Anniversaries/Annuals

Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, 3201 W. Second Ave., will observe the 33rd pastor’s appreciation program for Rev. Larry C. Battles at 10:50 a.m. Sunday. Rev. Henry “Hank” Wilkins IV, pastor of St. James United Methodist Church, and his congregation will be the guests.

The 127th anniversary of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church at Moscow will be celebrated Sunday at 2:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Rev. Ernest Jenkins of Macedonia Church. Macedonia choir will sing.

Amos Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 2401 Port Road, will host the 33rd pre-anniversary of the pastor, Rev. Robert Willis Jr., at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Andrew Beal of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church at Dumas.

Grace and Mercy Missionary Baptist Church, 817 W. Sixth Ave., will hold its fifth anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Don Hawkins, pastor of Barnett Chapel Church.

St. Luke AME Church, 9908 Princeton Pike, will observe the fifth appreciation service for its pastor and wife, Rev. Reginald Cleaver Sr. and Dwana Cleaver, at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Randolph Martin, pastor of Allen Temple AME Church.

Concerts/Musicals

The Annual Ole’ Timers’ Renewal Fellowship Service of the Pine Bluff Quartet Union will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at Family Time Baptist Church Ministries, 501 Ohio St. Guests include the Gatewood Brothers, Spiritual Harmonizers, Spiritual Harmonettes, Unity Singers and Five Sisters.

Prairie Lake Missionary Baptist Church, 2611 Indiana St., will host a musical celebration to honor the senior saints at 3 p.m. Sunday. Guests include Rev. Darrell Martin and the Mt. Zion Church Choir, Webb Sisters and Union Baptist Mass Choir.

La’Kresha Franklin, a minister, will present the “Come On Let’s Dance”service at 6 p.m. Sunday at New Bethel #1 Outreach Ministry, 1320 N. Magnolia St. Guests include Truth from Conway, Shunta Graham, Old St. James Praise Troupe, Prosperity Mime and Soldiers4Christ.

Traveler’s Rest Baptist Church at Grady will celebrate its annual choir day at 3 p.m. Sunday. Guests include the Johnson Family, Heavenly Hearts, Mt. Zion Church and Owen Chapel Church, both of Dumas.

Men’s Day/Women’s Day

Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in the Noble Lake community on U.S. 65 South will host its annual men’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest minister will be Rev. Glenn Barnes, pastor of Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church at Pine Bluff.

Eternal Life Ministries, 503 Pryce St., will celebrate men’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Leon Warner, pastor of Liberty Faith Church at Pine Bluff.

Watkin Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 800 S. Juniper St., will host its annual men’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest preacher will be Rev. Charles Helloms, pastor of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church at Ladd. Music will be by First Baptist Ladd Male Chorus, Eighth Avenue Male Chorus and Nu Emag 3.

Special Events

Eudora Missionary Baptist Church, 9405 Middle Warren Road, will host its annual friends and family day at 11:15 a.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Antoniyo Reed, youth pastor of New Community Church. Activities include volleyball, basketball and sack races, as well as refreshments.

Greater Deliverance Global Ministry, 2215 E. Harding Ave., will conduct its Kingdom Connection fellowship at 5 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Wanda Lowe, a bishop with Daughters of Zion Sons of Thunder International Fellowship Ministry.

Highland Baptist Church, 1320 S. Peach St., will host the ordination ceremony of Rev. Michael Jenkins Jr. at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. DeSean Jarrett, pastor of St. John Missionary Baptist Church at Lonoke.

Pleasant View Ministries, 1117 N. Palm St., will celebrate its 89th church anniversary with homecoming and friends and family day at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. John Farris, pastor of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church at Faith.

The Regular St. Marion District Association will meet at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 4807 W. Sixth Ave. Tuesday at 7 p.m., the opening speaker will be Rev. Kirby L. Gulley. Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., the Young People’s Department speaker will be Verna S. Wilson-Johnson. Thursday at 2:30 p.m., the address will be presented by the Women’s President, Rosetta Madison. Friday at 7 p.m., the presentation will be by the moderator, Rev. Lee Whitiker.

All Nations Tabernacle of God, 1115 Redbud St., will host its 35th annual Holy Convocation. Classes will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and services at 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Lunch will be served during the day. At 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, the final convocation service will be held.

First Trinity Church of God in Christ, 800 Catalpa St., will host a mission service at 7 p.m. Sunday. The featured speaker will be Rev. Ulysses Walker Jr., pastor of First Church of God in Christ at McGehee, accompanied by his church. First Trinity has been involved with missions more than 45 years in Haiti, the Bahamas, Philippines and South Africa.

New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 1026 Missouri St., will host the Greater St. Marion District Congress of Christian Education, Monday through Friday, 5 to 7 p.m. Courses will be taught by Levell Bass, Donald L. Agee, Charles Helloms Jr., Elfreda Boyd, and Geneva Green. The Young People’s Session will be at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 1801 Indiana St.

Bethel New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 2522 N. Pryce St., began a six-week Bible study series at 7 p.m. Wednesday on the book, “I Am A Church Member.”

Dominique Swygert will be giving her first sermon and will be licensed as a minister at House of Bread Deliverance Church, 500 S. Main St., Sunday at 3 p.m. Swygert, a 2014 graduate of Pine Bluff High School, will attend the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff this fall.

Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 900 Grant St., will hold its annual ushers’ day at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Wiley Shelton, pastor of Motley Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

Mt. Harmony Missionary Baptist Church, 812 E. Harding Ave., will hold the deacons’ ordination service for Andre Butler, John Handley, Vincent Miles and Sederick Rice, at 3 p.m. Sunday. Rev. Louis Williams of St. Bethel Church, will be the guest minister.

At 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, a musical benefit in honor of CloDean Miller, who has been ill, will be held at Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist Church at Wilmar, where she is a member. Anyone who enjoys gospel music and is willing to reach out financially to a neighbor in need, is invited to attend, the pastor, Rev. Shay Gillespie, said.

Revivals

Claud Road Baptist Church, 1821 Claud Road, will hold revival at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Sunday and at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. The evangelist will be Thomas Lanthrip.

St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church at Sherrill will hold revival at 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Glenn Barnes Sr., pastor of Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church.

New Fellowship Baptist Church, West 17th Avenue and Cypress Street, will host revival at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. The guest evangelist will be Rev. Robert White, pastor of Cornerstone North Baptist Church at Bedford, Texas. For transportation, call 536-1511. Also, New Fellowship will host a community block party from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday. An evangelistic team from Cornerstone Baptist Church at Arlington, Texas, led by J.E. McKissic, will travel with New Fellowship into the community Monday and Tuesday.

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School will be conducted at Freedom Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.

The Church of God, 7111 Shannon Road, will host Vacation Bible School from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday for ages 4-12. VBS graduation and a Back-2-School barbecue will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, which will include games, food, and free school supplies. Youth

New Community Church, 321 N. Birch St., will present Youth Retreat 2014 at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. The guest minister will be Tony Williams of Unity Apostolic Church at Altheimer.

Area youth are invited to the Back to School Youth Conference starting at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at First Trinity Church of God in Christ Annex Building, 2900 W. Sixth Ave. Backpacks with school supplies will be given to the first 100 students. A drawing for two $50 cash prizes will be held, however participants must be present to win. Lunch will be provided.
