Anniversaries/Annuals

Mt. Bayou Missionary Baptist Church at Althiemer will host the 20th appreciation program for the pastor and wife, Rev. Lafayette Woods Sr. and Gwendolyn Woods, evangelist, at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The guest minister and church are Rev. Robert Coates of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church at Little Rock.

Truth and Love Worship Center Church of God in Christ, 2006 W. 13th Ave., will host the appreciation for the pastor and wife, Superintendent Henry Hellums Sr., and Jereline Hellums, missionary, Sunday. At 11:45 a.m., the speaker will be Cynthia Houston, a missionary at Truth and Love. At 3:30 p.m., the guest speaker will be Rev. Timothy Jones, pastor of Bethlehem Worship Center of Dumas.

The 117th anniversary of Old Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 3116 Port Road, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Johnny Morton, pastor of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church at Dumas.

The 143rd anniversary of St. John Missionary Baptist Church at Sherrill will be celebrated Sunday at 11 a.m. featuring Rev. Clifton Blanchett, associate minister of Greater Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church of Forrest City, as the guest speaker. At 12:30 p.m., the awards and recognition luncheon will honor Rev. Sylvester Dunbar and Rev. Douglas Allen and the guest speaker will be Rev. Gabriel Jackson, pastor of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. At 3 p.m., the guest speaker will be Rev. Cedrick Hawkins, pastor of First Missionary Baptist Church at Stuttgart.

New Covenant Church Global, 2501 S. Bay St., No. 18, will host the third celebration for the pastor and wife, Herman and Bettie White, at 4 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be John Bearden, an apostle.

Bright Star Missionary Baptist Church, U.S. 425 South, will host the 19th pastoral anniversary of Rev. William A. Neal Sr. at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Glenn Barnes, pastor of Pine Hill Baptist Church.

New Salem Missionary Baptist Church at Sherrill will honor the pastor and wife, Rev. Clark Thomas and Hazel Thomas, on their 36th anniversary Sunday. At 11 a.m., the guest speaker will be Rev. Michael Woolfolk of Columbus, Ga. At 3 p.m., the guest speaker will be Rev. Artee Williams, pastor of Greater Pleasant Branch Missionary Baptist Church at Conway.

Smith Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 3006 Kentucky St., will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the pastor and wife, Rev. C.L. Williams and Robbie Williams, Sunday at 11 a.m. The guest preacher will be Rev. Rashun Howard, associate minister of New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church.

Concerts/Musicals

The 33rd anniversary of the Johnson Family will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Traveler’s Rest Missionary Baptist Church at Grady. At 7 p.m. Sunday, the celebration will be held at the Dumas Singing Center.

The youth choir celebration of Eudora Missionary Baptist Church, 9405 Middle Warren Road, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest minister will be Rev. Antoniyo Reed of New Community Baptist Church.

The monthly union night of the Pine Bluff Quartet Local will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at Family Time Baptist Church Ministries, 501 Ohio St. Guests will include the Rice Spirituals, Spiritualettes, Mighty True Lights, Union Choir and Men of Christ.

The Southeast Arkansas Community Mass Choir will sponsor a musical benefit program for Michael Creggett and family and for Tina Jackson-Boyd at 7 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church at Altheimer.

Sherrill United Methodist Church at Sherrill will host the Southern Gospel group Kinsmen in concert at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 7. The group has been performing 29 years and consists of lead singer Mark Little, Gary Newton, Bill Hankins and Gerald Williams.

Men’s/Women’s Day

Allen Temple AME Church, 1123 Virginia St., will celebrate men’s day Sunday, starting at 11 a.m. with guest speaker Rev. Ron Womack, associate minister at Old St. James Missionary Baptist Church. At 3 p.m., the guest speaker will be Rev. Steven King, pastor of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. Music will be by the St. Paul Male Chorus and Men in Black.

New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church at Cornerstone will hold its annual men’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest minister will be Rev. Bobby Acklin, pastor of Samaritan Hill Missionary Baptist Church at North Little Rock, and superintendent of Dollarway School District. Music will be by the men’s day combined choir and Samaritan Hill Male Chorus.

Abundant Life Church, 3109 S. Main St., will present the Women of Excellence Conference Monday through Saturday beginning with 8:30 a.m. prayer, 10:30 a.m. sessions with Margaret Wright of Kansas City, Mo., and 1 p.m. sessions. General sessions will be at 7 p.m. on these days with the following speakers: Tuesday, Zena Mitchell, evangelist; Wednesday, Alva Taylor, evangelist; Thursday, gospel recording artist, Carolyn Traylor; and Friday, conference founder and pastor, Louise J. Lyas.

St. Paul AME Church, 4143 Highway 190 East, will host its annual Women’s Missionary Society Day at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Piccola Washington of New Cheeks Chapel AME Church at Sherrill.

Revivals

Barnes Temple Church of God in Christ, 10301 Princeton Pike, will host revival at 7:30 p.m. Sunday through Friday and the speaker will be Elder Raymond Jackson.

First Missionary Baptist Church, 4500 Faucett Road, will hold its youth revival at 7 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Frank Harris of New Jerusalem Baptist Church, as the guest speaker, and 7 p.m. Friday featuring Rev. Gabriel Jackson of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

Special events

Bishop Larry Benfield of the Episcopal Diocese of Arkansas will make his annual visit to Trinity Episcopal Church, 703 W. Third Ave., Sunday, during a combined service at 9:30 a.m. at the church followed by a brunch in the Stowell Parish Hall. This is an opportunity to learn more about the Episcopal church, hear the bishop preach and to visit with him, according to Rev. Van Windsor, rector at Trinity.

The 83rd annual mission program of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church at Ladd will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. James Murry, pastor of Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church.

Northside Seventh-day Adventist Church, 5603 Holsey St., will host a Bible crusade and Vacation Bible School at 7 p.m. Sunday through June 14 and the presenter will be C.E. Cunningham Sr., pastor. The participant who brings in the highest number of people 12 years old and older will receive $500 and the runner up will receive $300 at the end of the crusade. Victory Faith Church of God in Christ, 1517 S. Poplar St., will add a 6:30 p.m. service on the first and third Sundays.

The annual mission day will be held at New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 1026 Missouri St., at 3 p.m. Sunday. The speaker will be Janice Collier of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Bald Knob.

The annual family day of Grace Temple Missionary Baptist Church, 909 S. Wisconsin St., will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Arnold Robertson of Mt. Harmony Missionary Baptist Church.

The mission service at First Trinity Church of God in Christ, 700 S. Catalpa St., will feature Elder Arthur R. Sledge, pastor of Kedron Church of God in Christ at Rison, and his church, at 7 p.m. Sunday. Proceeds will go for foreign missions. First Trinity has been involved with missions in Haiti for more than 45 years and does work in the Bahamas, Philippines and South Africa.

Rock of Faith Deliverance Church, 3108 E. Third Ave., will hold a deliverance service at 6 p.m. Sunday. The speaker will be Marilyn Shelley, a prophetess at Christian Outreach Ministry and Love Worship Center.

Canaan Christian Center, 7890 Middle Warren Road, has cancelled its relationship seminar that had been scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday.

Mt. Pleasant AME Church, 1201 N. Magnolia St., will host its ninth annual Congregational and Community Vision Dinner at 5 p.m. Saturday. The guest speaker will be Pine Bluff Mayor Debe Hollingsworth, a member of First United Methodist Church.

Amos Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 2401 Port Road, will hold its annual Golden Age Day honoring seniors at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Melvin Harrison of Mt. Ollie Missionary Baptist Church at Star City.

Vacation Bible School

Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 2101 Reeker St., will hold Vacation Bible School at 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Also, a class for preachers will be taught by the pastor, Rev. Glenn Barnes, and all preachers are invited to attend.

Smith Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 3006 Kentucky St., will conduct Vacation Bible School from 6-8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The principal is James Bennett, a deacon.

Grace Temple Missionary Baptist Church, 909 S. Wisconsin St., will hold Vacation Bible School at 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
