Anniversaries/Annuals

The anniversary celebration for the pastors, Willie and Shirley Matthews of the Word and Spirit Ministries at Star City, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Louise Lyas, pastor of Abundant Life Church at Pine Bluff.

Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church at Grady will celebrate its 125th anniversary/homecoming at 3 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Herbert Shirlee of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church at Little Rock will be the guest speaker.

Joy Community Church, 2101 E. Sixth Ave., will celebrate its 18th anniversary at 5 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be District Elder L. Aaron of Maumelle.

The sixth anniversary of the pastor and wife, Rev. Curtis and Gloria Smith, of Belmont Missionary Baptist Church at Moscow will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday with the Pastor’s Wife and Family Night. Special guests will be Rev. Johnny Smith Jr. and Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. At 4 p.m. Sunday, special guests will be Rev. Lee Whitiker and Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church.

The fourth pastor’s anniversary for Rev. Fredric Roberts will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church at Cornerstone. The guest speaker will be Rev. Michael Hansberry, pastor of First Baptist Church of Wrightsville.

St. Luke United Methodist Church, 32 School St., will celebrate its 60th anniversary and recognize special senior volunteers at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The guest speaker will be Bishop Gary E. Mueller of the United Methodist Church, Arkansas Conference. Details: Call 535-2291.

The 14th anniversary celebration for the pastor and wife, Rev. Climon James Lee and Melba Lee, will be held at Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church at Grady Sunday. At 11 a.m., the associate minister, Greg Lee, will be the speaker. At 3 p.m., the sermon will be by Rev. Woodrow Jackson Jr., pastor of Timothy Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at Pine Bluff. Also, the luncheon planned for Saturday has been cancelled, a spokesman said.

Concerts/Musicals

The Goodwill Singing Union Fourth Sunday service will be held at First Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer at 7 p.m. Sunday. The guest preacher will be Rev. P.C. Holly, pastor of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist churches at McGehee and Dumas. Special guests will be the Dumas Union.

A singing program will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at Westside Missionary Baptist Church. Guests will include Rev. Victor Dolls and Pure in Heart and Westside Harmonettes of Star City.

A pastor’s aid musical honoring Rev. Lafayette Woods Sr. and Gwendolyn Woods, evangelist, will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Bayou Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer. Words of encouragement will be by Rev. Anthony Craig, pastor of Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. Guests will include Soul Revivals, Men in Christ, Pure Purpose, Rev. Willie Laws and Rev. Sammie Smith and Nu Beginning.

The “Bringing It Home” Memorial Musical will be presented by the Jones Family at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer. Guests include the Southeast Arkansas Community Mass Choir, Heaven’s Choice, Wonder State Gospel Singers and Gospel Ambassadors.

The Pastoria Singing Union monthly service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at New Cheeks Chapel AME Church at Sherrill.

Men’s/Women’s Day

Greater Battle Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer will observe its annual women’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Robin Stepps, pastor of Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church at Tucker.

Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 3800 E. 38th Ave., will hold its annual men’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Carl Williams, pastor of Smith Chapel Baptist Church, and the musical guests will be Men in Black.

St. John AME Church, 1117 W. Pullen St., will host its women’s day celebration starting at 11 a.m. Saturday with a salad luncheon and fashion show at the church’s fellowship hall. The event costs $5. Sunday at 11 a.m., the guest speaker will be Veronica Alexander, a minister, and also known as the first lady of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. She has experience with public relations, marketing and strategic planning.

The annual men’s day will be celebrated at Spiritual Temple Church of God in Christ, 1001 Linden St., at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Paul Robinson, pastor of Acts 2:4 Church of God in Christ at Little Rock.

Revivals

Greater Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 3700 W. 13th Ave., will hold revival at 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Carl J. Perry, pastor of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church at Cedar Branch, Miss.

Mt. Harmony Missionary Baptist Church, 812 E. Harding Ave., will host revival at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. The evangelist will be Rev. Marvin Wiley, pastor of Rock of Ages Baptist Church at Maywood, Ill.

Living Word Baptist Church, 5617 Sulphur Springs Road, and First Missionary Baptist Church at Ladd will sponsor a revival at Living Word at 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. The guest evangelist will be Bernard “Mississippi” Mitchell of Mendenhall, Miss.

Amos Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 2401 Port Road, will hold spring revival at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. The The guest evangelist will be Rev. Leon Williams.

Regenerated Missionary Baptist Church, 1401 E. Sixth Ave., will hold family and friends day at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guests will be Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church and Rev. George Waters Jr.

New Hope Missionary Baptist Church at Moscow plans its family and friends day at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Robert Scott, pastor of Damascus Missionary Baptist Church.

First Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer announces its family and friends day at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest preacher will be Rev. Robert Willis, pastor of Amos Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church at Dumas will hold its family and friends day and honor its 2014 graduates at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guests will be Rev. Mark Stephens and Union Chapel Church at McGehee.

The School of Ministry at Breath of Life Church, 1313 S. Pine St., will hold commencement exercises at 10 a.m. Sunday. The valedictorian is Thornton Green III and honor graduates are Kathy L. Kentle, LaShunda D. Holmes and Linda K. Duncan. Versie O’Kafor will receive a certificate in systematic theology.

Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer announces its annual usher’s day will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest preacher will be Rev. Melvin Harrison, pastor of St. Ollie Missionary Baptist Church at Star City.

Bright Star Missionary Baptist Church on U.S. 425 South will host a mission program at 3 p.m. Sunday. Rev. LeArthur Shelton, pastor of Lampkin Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, will be the guest speaker.

Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 900 Grant St., will host senior citizens day at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Don Hawkins, pastor of Barnett Chapel Church.

Union Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer will hold its 10th annual Golden Saints program at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Arthur Hughes, pastor of First Baptist Church at Humphrey and Greater First Baptist Church at West Helena.

Eternal Life Ministry, 503 Pryce St., will host its fellowship program at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Elder Eugene Gurley of St. Stevens Church of God in Christ.

New Faith Missionary Baptist Church, 3800 Fir St., will host the New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church of Cornerstone in a fellowship worship service at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. Rev. Willie Laws Sr, pastor of New Morning Star, will be the guest speaker.

True Vine “E” Missionary Baptist Church, 1001 W. Second Ave., will hold a deacon’s ordination service for Dunte’ Cross at 7 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Dedrick Mustiful, associate minister at True Vine.

Jericho Missionary Baptist Church at Gould will host a ground-breaking service at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The church began around 1888 under the leadership of Rev. Epharim Hellums. The church is building a new sanctuary to reach, love and serve the community, a spokesman said.

St. Peter and St. Raphael Communities will host the first communion at St. Peter Catholic Church, 207 E. 16th Ave., at 2 p.m. Saturday. The main celebrant will be Archbishop Abraham Viruthakulangara of India. Confession and practice of the first communicants was held Tuesday, May 20.

Canaan Christian Center, 7890 Middle Warren Road, will host its relationship seminar beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 31, with the church’s apostle, Craig Banks and pastor, Sheryl Banks.

Youth

A youth extravaganza will be held at Almeta Missionary Baptist Church at Reedville at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Gabriel Jackson, pastor of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church at Pine Bluff and assistant principal at Dumas Junior High School.
