Anniversaries/Annuals

St. John AME Church, 1117 W. Pullen St., will celebrate its 146th anniversary at 11 a.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Leodis Strong of St. Mark AME Church at Tuscaloosa, Ala. Following the service, the Pioneer Wall, dedicated to outstanding members, will be unveiled in the fellowship hall.

Jerusalem No. 1 Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer will host an appreciation program at 2:30 p.m. Sunday honoring Dorothy Hunter for 60 years of service to the city of Altheimer, at home and the Central District Tabernacle. The speaker will be Rev. Theodis Shelton, pastor of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church at Pine Bluff. The True Gospel Aires will sing.

Concerts/Musicals

Cherry Street AME Zion Church, 800 E. Cherry St., will host the Pine Bluff Community Choir’s “Songs of Praise 48 Concert” at 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free. The interracial, mixed denominational group of Christian women sings songs of praise and thanksgiving to God. Concerts are held at a different church each fifth Sunday.

Summit Baptist Church, 901 Ridgway Road, will host the Kinsmen in concert at 6 p.m. Sunday. The group has been singing Southern Gospel music for 29 years. Members include Mark Little, Gary Newton, Bill Hankins and Gerald Williams.

The Holcomb Family will be in concert at 6 p.m. Sunday at Hardin Baptist Church, Highway 270 and Todd Lynn Drive at White Hall.

Prairie Lake Missionary Baptist Church, 2611 Indiana St., will sponsor the Inspiration/Youth Choir Reunion 2014 at 3 p.m. Sunday, directed by Rev. Micheal E. Williams Sr., pastor of Family Time Baptist Church and Ministries.

The Sensational Soul Revivals of Pine Bluff will sponsor the fifth Sunday night musical at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Southside Singing Center, 5400 W. 15th Ave.

Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church, 1100 Oakwood Road, will celebrate the inspirational choir extravaganza at 3 p.m. Sunday. Guests will include Watkins Chapel’s Pastor’s Choir, Prosperity Mime and Humble Beginnings.

Virtuous will celebrate its third anniversary at 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Cherry Hill Missionary Baptist Church at Moscow. Words of encouragement will be by Rev. Glenn Barnes, pastor of Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Guests will include the Johnson Family, Elevated Worship, Heavenly Hearts, Singing Revs, Hawkins Family and others.

Men’s/Women’s Day

New Community Church, 321 N. Birch St., will sponsor its annual men’s day at 11 a.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Elder Gary Tobar of Love Fellowship Ministry of Memphis.

Eudora Missionary Baptist Church, 9405 Middle Warren Road, will observe its annual women’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday. The speaker will be Debra Womack Canagan of Old St. James Missionary Baptist Church.

The annual men’s day at St. Peter’s Rock Baptist Church, 1201 S. Catalpa St., will be observed at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Johnny Smith of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. The Southeast Arkansas Male Chorus will sing.

Special events

Greater Ward Chapel AME Church, 3700 W. Sixth Ave., will celebrate family and friends day Sunday. At 11 a.m., the speaker will be Lanette Frazier of Allen Temple AME Church. At 3 p.m., the speaker will be Rev. Bea Smith of St. John AME Church.

Word of Faith Full Gospel Baptist Church, 1108 S. Poplar St., will host its fifth Sunday family and friends day at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. The pastor, Henry Land Jr., will be the speaker.

New Derrisaux Missionary Baptist Church, 4010 Old Warren Road, will hold a fill a pew program at 3 p.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Rev. Melvin Harrison, pastor of St. Ollie Missionary Baptist Church. Guests also include the Webb Family, Grace Temple, Lampkin Chapel, and other churches.

New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 1317 S. Texas St., will honor its 2014 graduates Sunday at 11 a.m. Words of encouragement will be offered by Kara Lynise Matthews Brown, a member of New Jerusalem.

Jerusalem No. 2 Missionary Baptist Church, 1005 W. 12th Ave., will host joint church fellowship service at 11 a.m. Sunday along with St. John Missionary Baptist Church of Sherrill and Union Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. The guest speaker will be Rev. Antonio Gayden Sr., pastor of Union Hopewell.

Reynolds Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 706 S. Cypress St., will hold the fifth Sunday fellowship at 3 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Joe Scott, pastor of Jerusalem No. 2 Missionary Baptist Church, will be the guest speaker.

True Vine “E” Missionary Baptist Church, 1001 W. Second Ave., will host the fifth Sunday fellowship at 7 p.m. Sunday along with Christian Fellowship and St. Luke churches. The guest speaker will be Rev. Robert Thomas.

Traveler’s Rest Baptist Church at Grady will hold fifth Sunday fellowship services at 10 a.m. Sunday along with Kindling Star, Jefferson Chapel and Pine Street churches.

St. Andrew AME Church, 701 Franklin St., will host its missionary day program at 11 a.m. Sunday. The guest minister will be Berinda Wallace Eugene of New Fellowship Baptist Church.

God’s Way Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 1601 Commerce Road, will host its missionary program at 11 a.m. Sunday. The guest minister will be Sheila Gardner.

Happy Home Missionary Baptist Church at Jefferson announces its fifth Sunday mission will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday. The guest speaker will be Trina Rowland.

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School will be held at Barraque Street Missionary Baptist Church, 1800 W. Pullen St., Monday through Thursday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Classes will be held for children and adults. For details or transportation, call 536-0582.

Main Street Church of God in Christ, 2800 S. Main St., will celebrate is annual youth day Sunday. At 11 a.m., the guest evangelist will be Connie Compton. At 7 p.m., there will be a youth explosion.
