The number of homes sold in Jefferson County in August was about the same as August 2012, the Arkansas Realtors Association reported Tuesday.
Jefferson County counted 41 in 2013, up from 40 in August 2012. For the year to date, the number of homes sold in Jefferson County through August was 252, up 1.6 percent from 248 during the first eight months of 2012.
The local market has shown increased activity, said Jim Buckner of Buckner Realty Company in Pine Bluff.
“Values have been relatively stable,” Buckner said.
Home sales typically slow substantially during the winter months, Buckner said, but he’s anticipating a a good rebound in the spring.
The Realtors Association data show the average home price in Jefferson County was $91,269, down from $107,715 in August 2012.
The number of homes sold in Arkansas in August was up 24 percent from August 2012, while the average price of those homes decreased by less than 1 percent. For the year to date, the average price was up from $87,660 in 2012 to $93,574 in 2013.
The association said 2,819 homes were sold in the 43-county area it surveyed in August, up from 2,273 in August of last year. The average home price in August 2013 was $164,373, down 0.3 percent from the average price of $164,916 a year earlier. Benton County had the most homes sold in August with 504, followed by Pulaski County with 423, Washington County with 291, Saline County with 162 and Garland County with 150.
The average home price for the month was highest in Perry County at $259,833, followed by Pulaski County at $196,374, Benton County at $195,755, Washington County at $186,067 and Craighead County at $183,484.
Stacy Howard of the Jefferson County Assessor’s Office said her August records coincided with the local numbers listed by the association.
