Mayor Debe Hollingsworth has proclaimed Nov. 30 as Small Business Saturday and the city of Pine Bluff is encouraging all citizens to support local small businesses.
Small Business Saturday began in 2010 by American Express, which took the initiative to think about the small businesses in America. Small businesses are the backbone of the city and country, a spokesman said.
“Small Business Saturday is important because when you shop with small businesses within your community the money you spend here, stays here. In this place we call our neighborhood. This is a day to shop at stores owned by our friends and neighbors; and do our part for the businesses that do so much for us,” the spokesman said.
Lanette R. Frazier, special project coordinator for the mayor’s office, canvassed the city to deliver Shop Small information provided by American Express to the small businesses to support them in their efforts to promote their companies.
