Scholarships available for minorities to teach in the Delta


Applications for the Arkansas Geographical Critical Needs Minority Teacher Scholarship Program for fall 2014 are available at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. The funds may be used at two-year or four-year colleges or universities in Arkansas.

UAPB administers the scholarship program to address the shortage of public school teachers in the Delta Region, particularly minority teachers.

The program, which was reauthorized by the 84th General Assembly (Act 1746), awards up to $1,500 per academic year for full-time enrollment and up to $750 per academic year for part-time enrollment.

To be eligible, an applicant must be a Black American, Hispanic American, Asian American or Native American; be enrolled in or accepted for enrollment as an undergraduate student at a baccalaureate degree-granting institution or accredited state-supported community college with teacher education as a major.

Applicants must submit an application along with all official transcripts to the Arkansas Geographical Critical Needs Minority Teacher Scholarship Program, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Mail Slot - 4986, Pine Bluff, AR 71601. The deadline to apply is July 31.
