Police chief visits Oak Park School with Pen or Pencil

Oak Park Elementary School fourth- and fifth-graders recently participated in a Pen or Pencil service learning exercise called “Let Me Read You Your Rights,” sponsored by ICVR Inc.

Pine Bluff Police Chief Jeff Hubanks read and interacted with students about their rights as part of the reading component of the Pen or Pencil initiative. During the assembly, more than 100 students signed the Pen or Pencil Freedom of Choice Agreement, agreeing to graduate, not get involved with gangs and to boycott bullying and violent behavior.

Myrtle Brown’s fifth-grade class read rights to the most adults over the weekend and will receive a pizza party at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
