Pen or Pencil youth to host round-table discussion

The Interested Citizens for Voter Registration, Inc. Pen or Pencil initiative will host the first Pen or Pencil students led round-table discussion on “Race and Racism” in the state at noon Saturday, April 19, at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Park to commemorate the founding of the Student Nonviolence Coordinating Committee

The discussion will be facilitated by the Department of Interior Little Rock National Parks Superintendent Robin White. The round-table discussion will take place immediately after the completion of the 11 a.m. Service Learning Project in the park. Refreshments will be served after the meeting.

The POP King Team program empowers youth to gain an appreciation for community service through teamwork history of the nation, especially civil rights history. There is no cost associated with ICVR Pen or Pencil King Team membership; however, youth are expected to participate in service learning projects and meetings to become eligible for travel during the summer. The ICVR King Team is open to youngsters between the ages of 10 to 19 who commit to nonviolence, community service and staying drug-free. Details: Call 870-536-7274 or 870-413-6345.
