PBSD sets free, reduced price meal program

The Pine Bluff School District announces its policy for providing free and reduced price meals for children served under the National School Lunch Program, Afterschool Snack Program, and School Breakfast Program.

The central office has a copy of the policy, which may be reviewed by any interested party. The price charged for a paid student breakfast is $1.60 and for lunch it’s $2.50.

The household size and income criteria on the application will be used to determine eligibility for free and reduced price benefits for the 2014-15 school year.

Children from households whose income is at or below certain levels are eligible for free or reduced price meals. For example, a household of one person, the criteria calls for an annual income limit of $15,171 for free meals and $21,590 for reduced price meals. For a two person household, the income limit is $20,449 for free meals and $29,101 for reduced price meals. (Details are available on the application.)

Applications are being distributed by schools and available at the principal’s office. To apply for free or reduced price meals, households must complete the application and return it to the school. Applications may be submitted at any time during the school year.
