Winners in two recent Pine Bluff School District spelling bees have been announced.
Fourth grader Bray’lon Hopkins of Broadmoor Elementary School won in his grade division and then took the overall competition for grades 4 through 8. He’ll participate in the Jefferson County Spelling Bee for that class group at
6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, the Arkansas River Education Service Co-Op at 912 West Sixth Avenue.
Hopkins’ alternate for the county contest will be Gabriel Starks of Belair Middle School, who won the sixth-grade title.
Other winners in the group were runner-up Emoni Williams of Southwood Elementary in grade 4; Jhaiya Davis of 34th Avenue Elementary in grade 5; Maiya Reed of Belair, first place in grade 7; Gia Edgerson of Southeast Middle School, runner-up in grade 7; and Kaezron Washington of Robey Junior High School in grade 8.
Respective winners and runners-up in the kindergarten through grade 3 competition were Simone Taylor of 34th, Sanaya Wright of Oak Park Elementary School and Rachel Horton of W.T. Cheney Elementary School in kindergarten; Sinez Herring of Cheney, Josilyn Kearney of 34th and Debra Rauls of Broadmoor in grade 1; Veriah Hightower of Cheney, Sa’Vhanna Obasade of 34th and Ashtyn White of Broadmoor in grade 2; and Jude Kearney of 34th, Aidan Fihiol of Cheney and Blakely Hopkins of Broadmoor in grade 3.
The first-place winners will compete in a county bee for the kindergarten through grade 3 group at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at ARESC.
