MLK Celebration set for Monday at Convention Center

In honor of the King Holiday, the state’s Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission will host its annual 2014 Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Celebration “A Day of Service — A Day On, Not A Day Off” at 11 a.m. Monday at the Pine Bluff Convention Center.

Isaac Farris (Dr. King’s nephew) is the keynote speaker. He served as the ninth president of the Atlanta-based Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Farris is the son of King’s sister, Christine King Farris.

A schedule from Gov. Mike Beebe’s lists him as one of the speakers for the event.

This event is free and open to the public and is sponsored in part by a grant from the Arkansas Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Free transportation will be provided by SEAT all day for the MLK holiday.
