Hollingsworth speaks at EAST Night Out

Mayor Debe Hollingsworth was the special guest on Oct. 15 for EAST Night Out at Robert F. Morehead Middle School, in the Dollarway School District.

The EAST Initiative is an educational model that focuses on student-driven service projects accomplished with teamwork and cutting-edge technology.

Hollingsworth encouraged students to be like a sponge and soak up education. She also encouraged students to take advantage of what they have before them and learn.

“There is no glass ceiling, the sky is the limit,” Hollingsworth said.

The mayor said the growth of our city starts with education, and that she made a pledge in her campaign platform to support education.

After the mayor’s speech, guests toured the EAST classroom, which is equipped with state-of-the-art workstations, servers, software, accessories, GPS/GIS mapping tools, architectural software, CAD design software, 3D animation suites, virtual reality development and more. EAST students identify problems in their local communities and then find ways to use these tools to develop solutions.
