Breaunna Davis and Braylon Owens, sixth-graders at Coleman Intermediate School in the Watson Chapel School District, attended a STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) event Thursday night at the Museum of Discovery in Little Rock. The two students were nominated and accompanied by their teacher, Barbara Harper Varnell. They were given the opportunity to meet engineers from several of the top STEM employers in Arkansas, and participated in hands-on activities that exposed them to real-world industrial applications of the science concepts they are learning in the classroom. At the close of the event, attendees were greeted by Gov. Mike Beebe and awarded a certificate as well as a trophy for their participation. Varnell also received a $50 gift card for use in the classroom.
