The Arkansas Blood Institute and Jefferson Regional Medical Center are partnering for a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, in JRMC South Classrooms 2 and 3.
Because of weather conditions, the organizations are in an Emergency Blood Appeal and must make up more than 700 units lost to cancelled blood drives. ABI supplies every drop of blood to JRMC and 17 other hospitals in Arkansas.
One blood donation can save as many as three lives. It typically takes about an hour to give blood.
People 16 years and older are usually able to give. Sixteen-year-olds must weigh at least 125 and provide signed parental permission; 17-year-olds must weigh at least 125 pounds; and those 18 and older must weigh at least 110 pounds.
During December, each blood donor will receive a hot/cold gel pack, health screenings and Donor Rewards Points, redeemable at ABI’s online store.
If donors prefer, they can forgo the gel pack to support the Global Blood Fund. In turn, Oklahoma Blood Institute will make a monetary contribution of similar value to the Global Blood Fund.
Donations can be made every 56 days. Appointments are not required but can be made by calling Arkansas Blood Institute at 877-340-8777 or visiting arkbi.org.
