Aquaculture associations donate scholarship funds to UAPB

During the annual Catfish Farmers of Arkansas convention in Hot Springs, members of aquaculture groups presented a check for $9,000 to support students in aquaculture and fisheries at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Officials from three associations, made up of fish producers, suppliers, industry-related businesses and research/Extension/education personnel, presented the check to UAPB Chancellor Laurence B. Alexander.

“The Catfish Farmers of Arkansas have awarded a scholarship each semester to a UAPB undergraduate student in aquaculture and fisheries for more than 20 years,” said Carole Engle, director of the UAPB Aquaculture/Fisheries Center of Excellence. “This year, the National Aquaculture Association and the Arkansas Bait and Ornamental Fish Growers Association both matched that amount and presented the overall check to Chancellor Alexander.”
