Applications for the 30th annual KingFest Martin Luther King Jr. Marade (march/parade) on Monday, Jan. 20, are now available.
The marade will start at 2 p.m. and participants are asked to lineup at the Jefferson County Courthouse at 1 p.m. The parade/marade will proceed south on Main Street to 8th Avenue and east on 8th Avenue to the north steps of the civic center complex.
ICVR King Team youth will present a short educational program. Other youth talents can participate at the steps as well by calling the ICVR office to have their group or individual talent placed on the agenda.
The theme for 2014 marade will coincide with National Mentoring Month, Mentor A Child, Save a Life. Participants are asked to develop and display messages on floats, cars, banners and signs related to mentoring. Pine Bluff CARES will be recruiting mentors throughout the month of January. Awards will be given for the best mentoring slogan or message following the youth program.
Churches, social and civic organizations, youth group, neighborhood watch groups, sororities, fraternities, school bands, businesses and elected officials are invited to join the KingFest parade, which honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through interracial cooperation and community service.
