2 troopers from Southeast Arkansas promoted


Two Arkansas state troopers were among six statewide recommended for promotions Thursday during a regular monthly meeting of the State Police Commission.

The recommendations were presented to commissioners by Col. Stan Witt, director of the Arkansas State Police.

Cpl. Brad Spurlin, 37, of White Hall, was promoted to the rank of sergeant and will assume new duties as a Highway Patrol post supervisor assigned to Troop E headquartered at Pine Bluff.

Spurlin is a 13-year veteran of the department and most recently has been assigned to patrol duties in Troop E.

Sgt. Charles Watson, 51, of Monticello, was promoted to the rank of lieutenant and will assume new duties as assistant troop commander of Highway Patrol Division, Troop F headquartered at Warren.

Watson is a 25-year veteran of the department and most recently has been assigned as a Troop F post supervisor.
