Helen Taylor

Helen Ida Taylor (nee Scherrer), 95, died Nov. 1, 2009, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
She was born June 14, 1914, in St. Louis, Mo., to the late Arthur O. and Viola C. Scherrer.
She received her education in St. Louis and graduated from Beaumont High School.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Gilbert C. Taylor. They were married on April 14, 1934, in Waterloo, Ill.
In St. Louis she worked for DuPont Paint District Office, Union Electric Company and Kilgan Organ Company. She attended Bethany Evangelical and Reform Church, now Peace United Church of Christ. There she taught Sunday school for 5-year-olds. She was a member of the Couples Club, where she served as president and the first General Chairman of the church’s fundraising Smorgasbord.
During World War II she worked for Civil Service in Florida and North Carolina.
In Pine Bluff she worked for YB Turner, Arkansas Revenue Department, Brown Furniture Manufacturing Company and Razorback Printing. She had been a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, Opportunity Chapter of ABWA, The Pine Bluff Bridge House and Rosswood Country Club. She had been a member of First United Methodist Church, Lakeside United Methodist Church and was currently a member of Good Faith-Carr United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise C. Angelo of St. Louis, Mo., and Patricia J. Reutner of Hot Springs Village; one brother, Arthur C. Scherrer of St. Louis, Mo.
She is survived by one daughter, Becky L. Taylor of Pine Bluff.
She loved people and loved life. She never wanted any “grass to grow under her feet.” She wanted to experience as many adventures as possible. She was always there for anyone that needed her help. She loved to travel, visiting 49 of the 50 states, five continents and 21 different countries. She, her husband and daughter also went on 15 cruises. She was an avid bridge player.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Jefferson County Humane Society, P.O. Box 2233, Pine Bluff, Ark., 71613; or to the charity of your choice.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, from 6-8 p.m. at Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.
Funeral service will be Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Mike Wilkie and Dr. Andre Strydom. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Cemetery by Ralph Robinson & Son.
