RETIRMENT BANQUET SLATED TO HONOR DR. EDITH HYMAN
Monday, June 23, 2008 9:55 AM CDT
A retirement banquet honoring Dr. Edith Garrett Neal Hyman, a professor and former chairperson of the Department of Human Sciences at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB), is scheduled for July 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts Building on campus.
Hyman is being honored for 38 years of service —14 years as a faculty member in the Department of Human Sciences, 22 years as chairperson and two years as professor and principal investigator for the Delta Nutrition Intervention Research Initiative (Delta NIRI) Project in the Department of Human Sciences. An alumna of AM&N College/UAPB, Hyman has a master’s degree in clothing from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and a Ph.D. in fashion merchandising-business from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas.
Realizing that successful programs require financial resources, she became an accomplished grant writer, having secured more than $6 million in grants and contracts for program development, student recruitment and retention, faculty development and human sciences research.
A scholarship will be established in her honor and a portrait is being commissioned to be hung in the lobby of the Adair-Greenhouse Hall Building.
Tax deductible donations for the Dr. Hyman Scholarship and contributions toward the portrait should be sent to Dr. Margaret Martin-Hall, Director, University Relations and Development, 1200 N University Drive, Mail Slot 4981, Pine Bluff, 71601. Checks should be made payable to the UAPB Foundation Fund.
Notes and letters of appreciation should be sent to Wanda K. Goree, Department of Human Sciences, 1200 N University Dr., Mail Slot 4971, Pine Bluff, AR 71601. For additional information, call (870) 575-8817, 8811, 8815, 8818 or 8796.
