DEATHS FOR THURSDAY, JULY 17, 2008

Elaine Cooper

WARREN — Elaine Ruth Allmond Cooper, 92 of Warren, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at Wagnon Place Nursing Home.

She was born Nov. 15, 1915, in Fisher, Ark.

She was the widow of James Roger Cooper, a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Warren.

She was the daughter of the late A.W. Allmond and Ester Walker Allmond and was preceded in death by one brother, Carl Allmond of Fort Worth, Texas.

Survivors include one son, Gary Cooper of Warren; one daughter, Rita Kay Cooper of Little Rock; one brother, Jack Allmond of Little Rock; one sister, Lucille Anderson of Clarksville, Ark.; one grandson, Jim Cooper of The Woodlands, Texas; one granddaughter, Cindy Willhelm of Fort Smith; and one great-grandson, Tripp Cooper.

Graveside service was 4 p.m. Wednesday at Oakland Cemetery in Warren. Arrangements by Stephenson-Dearman.

Travis Branch

PETERSBURG, Va. — Mr. Travis Jamal Branch, 21, of Petersburg, Va., formerly of Pine Bluff, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2008.

He was born in Pine Bluff to Shelia Branch Wilson and Ronald Wilson of Petersburg, Va.

He graduated from Dinwiddie High School in Virginia Public School District in 2006.

His survivors include brother, Ronald Wilson Jr.; sister, Whitney Wilson, both of Petersburg, Va.; grandfathers, Vernell Wilson of Montrose and John Branch III; grandmothers, Mildred Branch and Paula Branch, all of Pine Bluff, and Earnestine Wilson of Montrose; great-grandmothers, Elsie Moore of Tillar, Dorothy Branch of Watson and Sammie Scott of Pine Bluff, along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be Friday, July 18, 2008, at Family Church by Dr. Robert Handley at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation is today from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.

The family will be at 3601 Greenlee St., Pine Bluff, Ark.

Larry Fisher

NEW ORLEANS — Command Sgt. Maj. Larry Kenneth Fisher, USA Ret. of Sheridan, Ark., originally from Boonville, Ind., died of natural causes at approximately 10 p.m., Saturday, July 12, 2008, at his residence in New Orleans, La.

CSM Fisher is preceded in death by his father, Larry Fisher; and his mother, Linda “Kay” Fisher, both of Jasper.

Surviving are his beloved wife Stacey; sons, SSG Ronnie Fisher of Fort Bliss, Texas, SSG James “Denny” and Heather Fisher of Fort Campbell, Ky., Christopher and Joyce Fisher of Sheridan, Ark.; daughter, SGT Cassandra Fisher of Fort Sill, Okla.; brothers, SFC Jeff Fisher USA Ret. of Jasper, Ind., and Brad Fisher of Ferdinand; grandsons, Jordan, Braden and Houston; granddaughters, Jamine and Cara; nephews, Sean and Austin; nieces, Amanda and Kasey; grandmother, Winnie Reynolds; aunts, uncles and many cousins.

CSM Fisher is the first full-time operations section chief in the Office of Emergency Preparedness in New Orleans, La. In the EOC, Fisher focused his efforts on the city’s physical security plan, assisted with the evacuation plan and alert notifications to the residents of New Orleans, with particular attention to those citizens with disabilities. During the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Fisher worked in several capacities, including leading a team of 30 emergency preparedness specialists. He was conducting several speaking engagements throughout the country in reference to the Katrina and emergency management just prior to his death.

CSM Fisher retired from the U.S. Army in September 2001 following a 24-year career serving with the 82nd Airborne Division, 101st Airborne Division’s “Rakkasans, the 160th Special Operations Aviations Regiment “Night Stalkers” and 5th Special Forces Group. CSM Fisher served tours of duty in Europe, the Persian Gulf (Desert Shield/Desert Storm) and Africa. His final assignment was as the command sergeant major of the 3D Chemical Brigade located at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

CSM Fisher’s awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (5 oak leaf clusters), Army Commendation Medal (6 oak leaf clusters), Army Achievement Medal (4 oak leaf clusters), Good Conduct Medal (8), National Defense Service Ribbon, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (4), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2), Kuwaiti Liberation Medal, Southwest Asia Service Ribbon, Master Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Egyptian Parachutist Badge, Expert Marksmanship Badge, Grenade Badge, Army Superior Unit Award and the Joint Meritorious Unit Citation.

Family and friends may call Lambs Funeral Home in Hopkinsville, Ky. at (270)889-9393. CSM Fisher will be buried at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery in Hopkinsville.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 20 starting at 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 21 at 10 a.m.

GOULD — Truelove Black, 90, of Gould died Tuesday at Star City Nursing Home at Star City. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Serenity Gardens Funeral Services of Dumas.
