DEATHS FOR TUESDAY, JULY 22, 2008

Rebecca Cross

Rebecca F. Cross, 76, of Pine Bluff, died Saturday, July 19, 2008, at Davis Life Care Center.

Ms. Cross was born Feb. 5, 1932, in Prescott, to the late Garland E. and Veron Cottingham Cross. She was reared and received her education in Hope, graduating from Hope High School in 1950. She moved to Pine Bluff in 1987, from Texarkana, Texas.

She was a secretary for a church in Dallas, Texas, and had worked for several government agencies.

Ms. Cross was a Baptist.

Her survivors include her brother, Charles Cross of Pine Bluff; a niece, Kay Cross Toole and her husband, Dr. Drew Toole of Pine Bluff; two grand nieces, Emily and Katherine Toole; and a grand nephew, Daniel Toole. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Graveside services are scheduled for Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at 1 p.m. in Chapelwood Memorial Gardens in Texarkana, Texas, with Reverend Jim Cross officiating by Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials take the form of contributions to Wesley United Methodist Church, 3010 South Hazel Street, Pine Bluff, Ark. 71603.

Grace Moore

Grace Helen Moore died July 20, 2008, at Pine Bluff. She was born on June 3, 1917, in England, Ark., to Arthur McKinley Bruce and Anna Faye Dunn Bruce.

In 1918 the family moved to Pottsville. When Helen was 13 years of age the family moved to Sherrill. Her family attended the United Methodist Church in Sherrill and that is where Helen met Claude Delbert Moore. They were married on Aug. 18, 1934. Delbert died on July 17, 1978, and Helen continued living in Sherrill where she was active in the UMW and the Sherrill Civic Club. She moved to Pine Bluff in 1989 but remained committed to her activities in Sherrill for many years. In 2001, she moved to Trinity Village Retirement Center where she lived until her death.

Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, Jennings McKinley Bruce and one who died at birth; two sisters, Mary Nell Browning and Bobbye Courtney.

She is survived by her five children, Yvonne (Frank) Stinebaugh of Sherwood, Carroll (Kate) Moore of Salem, Va., Martha Jo Berry of White Hall, Don (Rosemary) Moore of White Hall, Patricia (Jerry) Martinka of Maumelle; four grandchildren, Keith (Tina) Stinebaugh of Eagle River, Alaska, Karen (Jerry) Helton of Edmond, Okla., Mary Lou (Doug) Greenwood of Lexington, Ky., Bryan (Amy) Moore of White Hall; 10 great-grandchildren: John, Elizabeth, Hannah, Anna, Jonathan, Mary Kathryn, Maggie, Grace, Avery and Isabella; and three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Julia Harris of Heber Springs; one sister-in-law, Ida Cook of Little Rock; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 23, 2008, 10 a.m. at Fuller Hale-South Funeral Chapel with Revs. Paul Woolley and Bill Ferguson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials May be made to United Methodist Church of Sherrill, 5901 Earl Chaddick Road, Sherrill, Ark., 72152.

Jimmy Nelson

James Edward “Jimmy” Nelson, 62, of Pine Bluff, died Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

He was born April 8, 1946, in Pine Bluff, son of the late Earnest “Ed” Nelson and Marilyn “Pat” Harris Nelson. Mr. Nelson was reared and received his early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School in 1964. He attended Henderson State University.

Mr. Nelson served with the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era. While in Ubon, Thailand, he worked in a children’s orphanage during his time off.

He worked for the Cotton Belt Railroad (now Union Pacific Railroad) as an engineer for 40 years and was an officer (Road Foreman of Engineers) with the St. Louis-Southwestern Railroad while he lived in Louisiana and California. Mr. Nelson served as an officer and union representative for his union, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, in Pine Bluff.

Mr. Nelson was a member of First Assembly of God in Pine Bluff. He worked with Operation Blessing in Pine Bluff as minister to the needy for 8 years. Mr. Nelson was a life group leader for Agape church of Little Rock in Pine Bluff.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila Kientz Nelson, whom he married Sept. 3, 1971 , in Pine Bluff; son, Brian Nelson of Sheridan; daughter, Brecken McKennon of Pine Bluff; sister, Judy Norwood of Pine Bluff; and four grandchildren, Nicklaus Nelson, Kylie Nelson, Kaylin McKennon and Sunny McKennon.

Visitation will be Wednesday, 6-8 p.m. at Robinson’s.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008 at First Assembly of God with Rev. Gary Bell officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.

Memorials may be made to Ridgway Christian School, 3201 Ridgway Road, Pine Bluff, Ark., 71603.

Carolyn Barnett

MONTICELLO — Carolyn Jean Barnett, 55 of Monticello, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2008 at JRMC in Pine Bluff. She was born March 17, 1953 in Hamburg, Ark.

She was a retired factory worker and a member of Cominto Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Daniel Webster Stanley and Edna Florence Curry Harrison, and was preceded in death by two brothers, George Elwood Stanley and Daniel Webster Stanley and one grandson, Daniel Lee Roten, Jr.

Survivors include her husband, Huey Barnett of Monticello; one son, Jimmy Barnett and wife, Debra of Monticello; one daughter, Tracie Lynn Wallace and husband, Brian of Fayetteville; one brother, Dewayne Stanley of Phoenix, Ariz.; one half brother, Arthur Lee Harrison of Warren; six sisters, Linda Barnett of Monticello, Doris Moran, Donnie Moran and Loretta Holland, all of Hamburg, Debbie Hicks of Monroe, La., and Lori Cameron of Bastop, La.; four grandchildren, Mark and Jake Wallace, Keithlynn Barnett and Candice Strickland.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Cominto Baptist Church. Burial in Rash Cemetery by Stephenson-Dearman. Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Cominto Baptist Church.

Loretta Cox

STUTTGART — Loretta Cox of Stuttgart died Saturday, July 19, 2008.

She was born June 30, 1940, in Green County, Ark., to Raymond and Viola Wheeler Cox. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Loretta graduated from Paragould High School in 1958 and married Jerry Baldridge. Together they had two sons, Jerry, Jr. and Terry. She enjoyed league bowling throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s based in Clarksdale, Miss. While living there she was owner and operator of Southern Seafood Company, a seafood and catering business. She was a former member of The Gold Wing Road Riders Association and enjoyed motor cycle touring. She lived in Pine Bluff in the early 1990’s where she was employed in retail sales at Sears.

After moving to Stuttgart in 1997, Loretta attended Grand Avenue United Methodist Church where she was active in the Adult Singles Group. She was the former Political Action Chairperson and President-elect of the Stuttgart Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. She was an active member of RSVP, previously serving as secretary. Through RSVP she currently served at the Stuttgart Chamber of Commerce and the Museum of the Grand Prairie. She was a master sewing volunteer with the Ark. Cooperative Extension Service and had served as a judge for the Southeast Arkansas District Fair. She perfected the art of needlecraft including sewing, knitting, quilting, tatting, smocking and embroidery. In recent years she volunteered at Celtic Fest in Jackson, Miss., where she managed the hospitality suite for performing youth. As a cancer survivor, Loretta lived life to the fullest and enjoyed every moment spent with her family and friends.

Survivors are two sons, Jerry Baldridge, Jr. of Stuttgart, and Terry Baldridge and wife, Leila, of Vicksburg, Miss.; and two grandchildren, Keegan Baldridge of Vicksburg, Miss., and J.B. Duncan of White Hall.

A memorial service will be held Friday, July 25, 2008, at 10 a.m. at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church in Stuttgart with the Rev. George Rook officiating. Memorials may be made to the SRMC Auxiliary Scholarship Fund. The family will be at the home of Tricia Smith, 603 South College, Stuttgart.

Josephine Dollison, 80, of Pine Bluff died Saturday. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Brown Funeral Home.

Willie Miles, 103, of Pine Bluff died Thursday. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Brown Funeral Home.

DUMAS — Doris Daniels, 43 of Dumas died Friday at the Delta Memorial Hospital in Dumas. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Serenity Gardens Funeral Services of Dumas.

FORDYCE — Katherine Walker, 57, of Fordyce died Sunday. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.
