GOULD — An armed assailant robbed the Gould Post Office Tuesday morning escaping with an undetermined amount of cash.
No one was injured.
Postmaster Gail Thomas said she was alone in the post office at 100 West Jackson Street at about 10:45 a.m. when a tall, slender black man came in, pointed a gun at her head and demanded cash.
The man fled the scene with the money. Thomas said the man was wearing a dark colored shirt and jeans, and had short hair. Thomas said she did not recognize the man and wasn’t able to give any more information.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene along with Gould police. Inspectors from the U.S. Postal Service, the FBI and the State Police are also investigating.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service has issued a “wanted poster” on the suspect offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.
Anyone with any information is urged to call the U.S. Postal Inspection Service at 1-877-876-2455. All information will be kept strictly confidential.
