Democratic women host event for seniors

The Jefferson County Democratic Women display door prizes they provided for residents at Whispering Knoll. The group also provided bingo for the seniors. Democratic Women participants included Gypsy Tuck, Margaret Alexander, Marilyn Smith, Lereatha Hamilton, Princella Gardner, Elaine Osburn and Mary Whiteaker. It was a small way for the group to say they love the residents and to thank the staff, a spokesman said. (Special to The Commercial)

Brookshire’s donates to Boys and Girls Club

Brookshire’s annual golf tournament benefiting children’s charities donated $4,500 to the Boys and Girls Club of Jefferson County on Aug. 4 to support Project Learn Program. This program focuses on academics, emphasizing math and literacy. The club will be able to purchase supplies to continue to provide members with the academics needed to be successful, a spokesman said. Participants during the check presentation were James Britt, Boys and Girls Club area manager; Jeffrey Pulliam, board president of the club; Nyeshia Aldridge, club CEO; Daniel Vallance, store director of Brookshire’s on Camden Road; and Barbara Rhinehart, club secretary.
