Brooklyn Edwards, Destiny Bennett and Colton Edwards, sixth graders at Coleman Intermediate School in the Watson Chapel School District, attended a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) event Thursday night at Museum of Discovery in Little Rock. They were nominated and accompanied by their science teacher, Barbara Harper Varnell. The students were given the opportunity to meet engineers from several of the top STEM employers in Arkansas and participated in hands-on activities that exposed them to real-world industrial applications of the science concepts they are learning in the classroom. At the close of the event, attendees were greeted by Gov. Asa Hutchinson and his wife. They were also awarded a certificate as well as a trophy for their participation.
