Watson Chapel Junior High students learn drumming techniques

Watson Chapel Junior High School music students recently spent two weeks learning traditional drumming techniques with the nationally renowned musician and teacher, Zinse Agginie.

The Artist-in-Education residency was brought to Ms. Case’s music class thanks to the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas and the Arkansas Arts Council, which is an agency of the Department of Arkansas Heritage.

The drum style used by the students was the djembe, which originates from West Africa and is designed to be played with bare hands.
