U.S.D. 1812 chapter presents award to WC student

The Simon Bradford Chapter, United States Daughters of 1812 (U.S.D. 1812), recently presented the JROTC Medal and Certificate to Jaymie Varnell, a 2014 graduate of Watson Chapel High School.

The medal and certificate were presented by U.S.D. 1812 state vice president, Sharon Wyatt, and Jerrie Townsend, both members of the Simon Bradford Chapter. The presentation had special meaning as both Wyatt and Townsend are graduates of Watson Chapel High School.

Simon Bradford Chapter U.S.D. 1812 awards the certificate and medal to a JROTC student who has demonstrated qualities of academic excellence, leadership, military discipline, dependability, patriotism and upright character in speech and habits, which exemplify the ideals upon which our nation was founded. The chapter, organized in 1911, has worked since that time to promote patriotism, history and education.

U.S.D. 1812 is non-profit, non-political, women’s service organization for descendants of patriots who aided the American cause during the War of 1812 era. Membership is open to any woman who can prove her direct lineage back to an ancestor who rendered civil or military service from the close of the Revolutionary War to the close of the War of 1812
