The Jefferson County Single Parent Scholarship Fund Board recently awarded four special scholarships in such areas as academics, essay and community service. The JCSPSF received special donations from Entergy and Express Personnel, and honors supporters of education by awarding scholarships in their names.
Aechia Culclager received the Entergy award. She was selected by the award committee as Best All Around based on her grade point average, essay and letters of recommendation. She is a chemistry major at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and is a Pine Bluff firefighter.
Leshala Collins received the Express Personnel scholarship. She is majoring in human development/family studies at UAPB. Collins was selected because she exhibits character traits of the late Cathy Stroller, a dedicated employee of Express Personnel and a supporter of education.
Dianne Blanton, who is pursuing a radiological technology degree from Southeast Arkansas College, received the Donald Hatchett Scholarship. Hatchett served for more than six years in several capacities on the JCSPSF Board.
Maricha Walker received the Willie Scott Memorial Scholarship for the highest GPA with more than 30 credit hours. The late Willie Scott is the father of six children and a dedicated supporter of education. It was his goal for all of his children to graduate from college and all six did.
The application deadline for the next award period is Jan. 24. The JCSPSF will award another special scholarship to honor the memory of the late Jimmie Lee Edwards of New Hope AME Church of Sherrill.
