Sesame Club members hear program on fashion

The Sesame Club met recently at the Pine Bluff Country Club.

President Bonnie McClure called the meeting to order and led the members in the reading of the Collect. Following a brief business meeting, McClure introduced Shelia and George Mitchell, who would help Sue Smith present the third program, “Ladies Fashion”, in this year’s study, “The Sesquicentennial of the War Between the States”.

George Mitchell showed slides of fashions of a day of activity from early morning or at home to the grand ball or wedding and for every activity in-between. The detailed slides showed every intricate article of clothing for each activity and Smith explained how or why each article was used. She told that women used Godey’s Lady’s Book as a fashion guide. Smith reminded members that the slides were fashions for the wealthy. Everyday ladies wore simple clothing.

At the program’s end, the hostesses, Janelle Powell, Bettie Mildred Pierce and Ruth Roberts, served a delicious dessert at a table centered with a greenery garland laced with red roses, berries and baubles.
