The Southeast Arkansas Chapter of the American Red Cross will offer a Disaster Service Overview Training class on Nov. 19. The class will be held in the Red Cross training room at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Services Center, 211 W. Third Ave. The first class will begin at 9 a.m., and a second class will be held at 6 p.m.
According to a spokesman, disaster volunteers are needed desperately in this area.
The purpose of this course is to provide information about ways participants can help their community prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies and disaster. Participants will also learn about volunteer opportunities at their local Red Cross chapter. Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to explain how disasters affect people and communities; describe how the community, including Red Cross workers, work together in disaster preparedness and response; describe the services the Red Cross provides to people affected by disaster and the principles that guide Red Cross workers in disaster relief situations; identify resources for personal preparedness; and determine how to help their community prepare and respond to disaster.
Those interested are asked to call the Red Cross Office at 870-534-7312 to sign up.
