Under the leadership of the Rev. Steven E. King, pastor of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church and president of the Pine Bluff Baptist Ministers’ Alliance, approximately 240 citizens were served Thanksgiving meals in collaboration with various churches and with the support of Walmart.
On Thanksgiving morning, many volunteers from area churches gathered at Mount Harmony Baptist Church where they distributed meals to 20 walk-ins. Some 220 meals were delivered by church vans to those who were unable to come to the church. Walmart was receptive and willing to provide the turkeys for the meals; however, church members prepared the food, which included smoked turkey, baked hens, cornbread dressing, green beans, corn, rolls, cranberry sauce, and assorted cakes and pies.
The kitchen was occupied by more than 30 volunteers who worked diligently, with enthusiasm, and with love to accomplish the mission of serving those who responded to the offer of assistance at a time of thanksgiving.
