Local violinist to be featured at Christian Women’s luncheon


Pine Bluff Christian Women’s Connection will meet at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21 at the Pine Bluff Country Club.

Alex Small of Pine Bluff will be the special feature musician. Alex is a 16-year-old accomplished violinist and has played the violin for 10 years. He has studied with Jennifer Fox, Christi Bonds, and the Community School of Arts at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock with Keith Klosky. Alex has served as concertmaster of Summer Strings in Little Rock and as concertmaster of the Pine Bluff Youth Orchestra. He is the first violinist with the Pine Bluff Symphony Orchestra and the Sting Quartet of the Pine Bluff Community Band.

Alex’s awards include third place in the International Concerto Competition in 2011 in Eureka Springs and first place in the String Division of the UALR Piano and String Festival in 2013 and 2014. This summer Alex attended the Summer String Academy at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, where he performed master classes and concerts.

Alex is a student at Ridgway Christian School, where he is a member of the National Honor Society.

The featured speaker will be Nancy Knight of Fayetteville. Her topic will be “From New Jersey to Joy”. She is the author of a book by the same title. She is an accomplished vocalist and will sing as part of her presentation. Her innovative style invites audience participation and solicits feedback from participants.
