Local author receives recognition from Maya Angelou

Author Cathy L. Young, a native of Pine Bluff, recently received recognition on her novel “Grandma’s Rose”. Young sent sample chapters, along with other important information, to Maya Angelou’s president.

“I was so excited to receive an e-mail from Dr. Angelou’s company,” Young said. According to Young, Angelou’s president responded back immediately requesting for Young to send copies of the correspondences to her company.

Young said after the company received her novel, she received an autographed post card from Angelou thanking her for thinking of her and sending her copies of the trilogy, “Grandma’s Rose.”

It’s a wonderful thing to know that the effort and hard work I put into creating this family story “Grandma’s Rose” is being appreciated, enjoyed and shared by others all around the world, especially by one of my favorite famous authors, the great legendary Dr. Maya Angelou. I was happier than words could express when I heard from Dr. Maya Angelou,” Young said.

Young is an honor graduate from Southeast Arkansas College and presently attends the University of Arkansas.

Young’s books can be purchased online at barnesandnoble.com, amazon.com and at the Pyramid Art, Books and Custom Framing at Little Rock.
