A surprise birthday party was recently given in honor of Helen Perkins to celebrate her 75th birthday.
The guests included her children, grandchildren, family members and friends.
Perkins is a member of Mount Nebo Missionary Baptist Church. She works at Jenkins, as a grandparent, to special needs children. She is most talented for the job at Jenkins because she has gained experience through the years with raising her children. She has eight children of her own, 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
At her celebration, she was serenaded by her children, Diana, Pamela, Peggy, Joyce, Arthur, Patricia, Kimble and Tanya, with the song by Boyz II Men, “A Song for Mama.” Her pastor, Larry C. Battles, read a proclamation, proclaiming, May 9, 2014 as Helen Perkins Day. She was also showered with gifts, food and merriment.
