First Trinity to honor pastor with 85th birthday celebration

The First Trinity Church of God in Christ Mission Department will host a “Celebration of Life” honoring its pastor, DeWitt Hill Jr., for 85 years of life and legacy at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9 at Harbor Oaks Restaurant in Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Regional Park.

The event will also celebrate Hill’s more than 50 years of service to local and foreign missions.

Hill was born July 27, 1929, at Sample, the son of the late DeWitt Hill Sr. and Susie Hill, who taught him that God is best served through serving others. This is the ministry to which he has devoted his life.

In 1958, at the age of 29, Hill began pastoring the Trinity Temple Church of God in Christ in Pine Bluff and in 1973 he began pastoring at the Greater Trinity Church of God in Christ in Little Rock. While pastoring both churches, he pioneered radio and television ministries, and foreign missions in Haiti and Jamaica. He led the way in assisting First and Greater Trinity in becoming financially stable and entrepreneurial strong.

He has a great commitment to the community as the church serves the community by providing affordable health care, participating in summer food and educational programs, renovating and operating a laundromat service, and many other services.

Hill is married to Minnie P. Hill and they have three children, Finley Hill Sr., Christine Hill and Marinda Williams.

Tickets are $85 per person. Individual tickets or table sponsorships are available. For tickets call 870-534-2873 or 870-879-1177. Proceeds from this event will benefit local and foreign missions.
