Eloquent Ladies Civic and Social Club to host Black History celebration

The Eloquent Ladies Civic and Social Club will present “A Celebration of Black History” from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Mount Harmony Missionary Baptist Church, 812 E. Harding Ave.

“African American Contributions in Pine Bluff” is the theme for the occasion. John Mitchell, a native of Pine Bluff and local historian, will be the guest speaker.

Eloquent Ladies Civic and Social Club is an affiliate of the Arkansas Association of Women’s Club Inc., and the National Association of Colored Women’s Club Inc. of Washington, D.C., the oldest black women’s organization in the United States that was organized in 1896. The organization has remained a significant voice in national affairs and has contributed to the uplifting of the American way of life since its inception.

The public is invited to attend. Refreshments will be served. African attire is optional.
