First Baptist Church, 6501 S. Hazel St., will host its March book review at 10 a.m. Saturday in the church’s fellowship hall.
Thomas J. Cunningham III will review “The Preacher”, a book he has written about his pastoral journey over four decades with the majority of those being spent in the Delta of Arkansas.
Congregations where he served requested that he write a book about some of his real life experiences, which seem stranger than fiction. In his book, “The Preacher,” he shares true vivid accounts of hilarious events that can occur and did, in one preacher’s life. From the pulpit to the baptistery, “The Preacher” is very entertaining. Even funerals, weddings, counseling sessions, and correspondence is not exempt from the laughter which has filled his many years of pastoring. The writer of Proverbs reminds us that a merry heart is a very good thing. “The Preacher” will put a smile in your heart and help you see that God indeed has a sense of humor.
Cunningham is the son of the late T.J. “Pete”and Margaret Cunningham of Pine Bluff. He received his education in the Pine Bluff Schools, graduating from Pine Bluff High School in 1962, where he played football. He holds degrees from Ouachita Baptist University, Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary and Luther Rice Seminary. He was married to the late Susan Ritter Cunningham and they are the parents of a son, Tom of North Mississippi, and a daughter, Rebecca of Mountain Home. He is presently serving as pastor of Dermott First Baptist Church.
Autographed copies of his book will be available for purchase following the review. Door prizes and refreshments will be furnished. The public is invited to attend.
