The Pine Bluff Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. recently sponsored a World AIDS Day Walk at The Pines mall.
With about 65 people participating, walkers made a donation to the event and were provided a wristband embossed with the word “Until” which means “Until there’s a cure”. The theme for World AIDS Day was “Getting to Zero: Zero new HIV infections. Zero discrimination. Zero AIDS related deaths”.
World AIDS Day brings together people from around the world to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and demonstrates solidarity in the face of the pandemic. The day is an opportunity for public and private partners to spread awareness and encourage progress in HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and care.
Jefferson Comprehensive Care Systems Inc. partnered with Delta Sigma Theta to assist with the goal of raising awareness of HIV/AIDS by providing information and confidential testing. In addition, The Pines mall was also a partner who provided space for the walk.
The money raised at the event was donated to the HIV/AIDS Peer Education (HAPE) organization at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
