The family of Daisy M. Boler-Smith recently celebrated her 80th birthday at the Community Club located at the Pine Bluff Arsenal.
A proclamation was read and presented from the mayor’s office and the food was catered by Keith Roberts for the celebration. Family members came from Austin and Houston, Texas, St. Louis, Mo., Chicago and Memphis, Tenn., to celebrate this milestone in Smith’s life.
Smith was born May 3, 1934, in Pine Bluff, to Bertha L. Carlisle-Jones and Willie Boler. She is a 1952 graduate of Merrill High School. She was married to the late Tommy L. Smith and to this union five children were born — Sandra Smith-Gaynor, Sherry Smith-Lowe, Dennis Smith and Debbie Smith-Cotton. She is also the mother of Shirley A. Sanders, Linda Lowe and Tina Smith. She is the surrogate mother to Erma Jean Billings. Her siblings are Essie Campbell and Michael Jones of Pine Bluff, Bernice “Bonnie” Jones-Haley and Betty Hunter-Barnett of Chicago, Ill., and the late Ollie Mae Jones and the late Eddie Mae Scott. She has 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
She retired from Kennel Metal Tool Company in 2001. After her retirement, she became active in the local public school system, often serving as a parent volunteer within the Pine Bluff School District. She became known as “Grandma” by the students.
Smith is a longtime member of Greater Deliverance Global Ministry, where she serves as the chair of the finance committee and as the corresponding secretary. She enjoys spending time with her family.
