Calendar of events


This is a listing of activities of interest to residents of Southeast Arkansas. Anyone who would like to submit entries for consideration may do so in writing to the Entertainment Calendar, P.O. Box 6469, Pine Bluff, Ark., 71611. Since all activities are subject to change, it would be wise to confirm the activity with the sponsoring organization.

August

29-31 — The Pine Bluff High School Class of 1974 will host its 40th-year class reunion beginning with registration from 4-6 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Pine Bluff High School Cafeteria. The following activities will all be held at the Waterfront Facility in Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Regional Park: Aug. 29: ’70s Dance will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight. Aug. 30: Class picnic from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Banquet from 7 p.m. to midnight. The attire for the banquet will be semi-formal. A worship service will conclude the weekend on Aug. 31 at Highland Baptist Church, 1320 S. 31 — The seventh annual “Returning to the Hood” Eastside Reunion and Labor Day celebration will be held at Indiana Street Missionary Baptist Church, 1114 S. Indiana St., on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. Friends and Family Day will be held at 10:40 a.m. Aug. 31 and the Labor Day celebration will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 1. For more information, contact Paulette Lewis at 870-536-0817.

7Saracen Landing will be the site of “Saracen Sunday”, an afternoon concert of blues, soul and blues-rock on the lake at the pavilion, from 4 to 8 p.m. Those attending the concert are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Food vendors will be on site. Cost of admission is $5. 11 — An exhibition of work by Little Rock artists, Dennis and Jason McCann, will open in the Kennedy Gallery of the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas with a free reception and gallery talk by the artists from 5-7 p.m. Gallery admission is free. The Arts & Science Center, located at 701 S. Main St., is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m., and closed on Sunday and Monday.
